Successful transition of FORPOST to a new currency in Lithuania

From the 1st of January, 2015 euro was declared an official currency of the Republic of Lithuania. Adaptation of the information systems in banks operating FORPOST was the main project of the Forbis Company during the last year. In fact, that period, which started in January 2014, was devoted to preparation of the banking systems to introduction of a new currency.

“The banking system demonstrated its well-preparedness for the euro adoption. Most ATMs are already issuing euro, payment card settlements are also taking place successfully. I would like to thank the staff of banks and the Bank of Lithuania, collectors and all others who ensured a successful start in using the euro,” said Vitas Vasiliauskas, Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania during the press-conference dedicated to introduction of euro, held on the 1st of January 2015.

The last days of December in banks and in the Forbis Company were spent working hard on the final stage of the project. During holidays and the New Year’s night Forbis on-duty teams of specialists were ready to assist the banks in case of any emergency. Fortunately, the whole year’s work proved to be fruitful – no problematic issues occurred, the migration was smooth and well-organized.

Ija Šležė, Head of the group of Forbis’ system development noted: “First of all, I would like to mark out high expertise and consolidated work of the Forbis team, who managed to carry out such smooth and secure migration to euro. A responsible and thoughtful approach of the banks’ employees to the project has played the important role. We are glad to acknowledge that we have become a part of the historic event in our country and made our contribution to Lithuania’s entering into the euro zone.”
